Focus: Trusting in God and His Word
Psalm 37 (Paraphrased) Don’t let evil people upset you. Don’t be jealous of the ones who do wrong, because just like the grass, they will be cut off and quickly dry up. Like green plants with a short life span, they won’t live long.
Trust the Lord and do what is right. Live in the land and feed on His truth. Enjoy serving the Lord, and He will put the right desires in your heart and give you what you want. Depend on the Lord; always trust Him, and He will take care of you. When you completely trust Him, He will cause right things to happen for you. His blessing will be consistently yours, just like the sun coming up every morning—and the justice that comes to you will be like the blessing of a bright sunny day. Wait for the blessing of the Lord and trust Him to give it.
Don’t be upset when other people get rich or when somebody else’s plans succeed more than yours do. Don’t get angry. Don’t be upset about it; that kind of an attitude will only lead you to trouble.
Evil people will be sent away, but people who trust the Lord will inherit the land. In a short time, the wicked will be no more. You may look around to see where they are, but they will be gone.
People who aren’t proud will inherit the land and will enjoy complete peace. The wicked make evil plans against people who love God. They grind their teeth at them in anger. But the Lord laughs at wicked people, because He sees that their day of doom is coming.
The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows preparing to kill the poor and helpless, and those who are honest. But the swords they aim at God’s people will stab their own hearts, and their bows will break in pieces.
It is better not to have much and be right with God, than to have abundance and be lost.
The power of wicked people will be broken, but the Lord supports those who try to do the things God says are right. The Lord watches over the lives of the innocent, and His reward to them will last forever. They will not be ashamed when times of trouble come. They will be filled in times of hunger, but wicked people will die. Field flowers don’t live long. In the same way, the Lord’s enemies won’t last long either; they will disappear like smoke.
Wicked people borrow and don’t pay back what they owe, but those who do right have enough so that they are able to give freely to others. The land will be given to those who the Lord blesses, but the ones He curses will be sent away.
When people want to walk with the Lord and follow in His steps, God is pleased with their ways. If they should stumble, they will not fall down, because the Lord is always holding onto their hand. I was once young, and now I am old, but I have never seen the children of people who love the Lord left helpless or begging for food.
People who love the Lord always give to people who are in need—without expecting to be paid back, and their children are a blessing. Stop doing things that are evil and live according to God’s Word, so you will live forever.
The Lord loves justice and will never leave people who spend their time worshipping him. He will always protect them and their children, but the children of wicked people will die.
Those who love the Lord will inherit the land and will live in it forever. God’s people speak with words of wisdom, and they say what is fair. The teachings of their God are in their heart, so they do not fail to keep them.
Wicked people watch for good people so that they may kill them. But the Lord will not take away His protection or let people who love Him and are trying to live in His ways be judged guilty.
Wait for the Lord’s help and follow Him always. He will honor you and give you the land, and you will see the wicked ones sent away. I saw a wicked and cruel man who looked strong like a big healthy tree in good soil. But he died and was gone; I looked for him, but he couldn’t be found.
Think of the innocent person, and watch how honest people live. The man who has peace will have children who will live after him. But sinners will be destroyed; in the end the wicked will die and people will forget they were ever on earth. The Lord saves the people who truly love Him; He is their strength in times of trouble. The Lord helps His own people and saves them from destruction; He saves His people from the wicked, because they trust in Him for protection.
